The chairperson of the African Union (AU) – Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma – who is to step down at the end of next month – has announced that AU is embarking on major programmes to heighten skills development, education, infrastructure development such as roads, rail networks, bridges, free movement, AU passport, inter-continental trade, agricultural development and peace and security. She was delivering her first and only “state of continent” address in the South African coastal city of Durban on Monday (Dec 19 2016). Dlamini-Zuma – who is the former wife of the South African President – Jacob Zuma – is scheduled to contest the leadership of the ruling ANC and the presidency of the country when Zuma steps down in 2019.
