OUR RICH HISTORY – ONE OF THE UN-SUNG STRUGGLE HEROES AND HEROINES – RAJAS PILLAY – WHO WORKED AS AN MK POLITICAL DIVISION MEMBER IN EXILE FOR 12 YEARS.

THIS RADIO FEATURE ON MS RAJAS PILLAY WAS COMPILED BY SUBRY GOVENDER IN JULY 2009 Rajaluxmi Pillay (known as Rajas) (9 July 2009) One of the un-sung heroes of the South African freedom struggles is 72-year-old Rajaluxmi Pillay, known as Rajas, of Reservoir Hills who spent 12 years in exile as a member of the political division of the ANC’s military wing, Umkhonto we Sizwe. She returned to the country in 1991 at a time when political negotiations were taking place between the ANC and the then ruling National Party. In 2009, when she had turned 65 she was honoured by the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation for her contributions to the struggles. Subry Govender conducted an interview with Ms Pillay at her flat in Reservoir Hills in July 2009 and compiled this radio feature as a tribute to her contributions for the creation of a non-racial and democratic society in South Africa………. .
