On June 16 1976 the school children of Soweto took to the streets to protest against the forced imposition of Afrikaans as a medium of instruction in black schools.
The apartheid regime security forces reacted with brutality, mowing down and killing hundreds of school children.
In this radio documentary, Subry Govender, pays tribute to the thousands of young people who sacrificed their lives for the freedom that was attained in April 1994.
