ROAD CARNAGE ON SOUTH AFRICAN ROADS CLAIM THOUSANDS OF LIVES ANNUALLY

More than 1 000 people have been killed on South African highways and national roads since the start of the festive season on December 1. Annually – the Medical Science Research Council – estimates that the carnage on the roads are more than 18 000 with another 150 000 being injured and a significant percentage paralysed. The South African authorities have implemented heavy policing and strict regulations in an attempt to minimise the death toll.
