ROLE OF INDIAN-ORIGIN PEOPLE IN THE FREEDOM STRUGGLES IN SOUTH AFRICA IS BEYOND QUESTION. A RADIO DOCUMENTARY BY SUBRY GOVENDER

(MEWA RAMGOBIN - WHO WAS PART OF THE ACTIVISTS WHO REVIVED THE NATAL INDIAN CONGRESS - TAKING PART IN A PROTEST MARCH OUTSIDE THE DURBAN CITY HALL IN THE MID-1980s) In 2008, the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal announced that it will go out of its way to win the support of the people of Indian-origin to vote for the party in the third democratic elections in 2009. While this was considered to be a welcome move, the question that was asked by many people is what has happened to the very support that the ANC enjoyed during the freedom struggles among the people of Indian-origin. In this radio report, Subry Govender, recalled in his Rich History report the role the Indian-origin people played in supporting the freedom struggle.
